The meaning of Nifty is derived from the combination of the phrases “National Stock Exchange” and “fifty.” It is the National Stock Exchange Fifty’s acronym. The top 50 equity stocks in the index that are currently trading make up this group. 51 stocks are, however, currently trading on Nifty. Nifty is hence also referred to as Nifty50 or CNX Nifty.
