Ventures of Shark Tank India are Generating Losses!!

Unlike its American counterpart, Shark Tank India has never worked for us as a show since its first season.

In the US version of the show, every judge (Barbara Corcoran, Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, and Kevin O’Leary) runs profitable businesses rather than relying on venture capital or drowning in massive losses.

So, beginning with Season 1, we decided to delve deeper into each shark’s business.

Vineeta Singh’s SUGAR Cosmetics reported a loss of INR 75 Cr in FY22, up from a loss of INR 21.1 Cr in FY21.

Ghazal Alagh’s Mamaearth made a profit of INR 14.44 crore in FY22 for the first time since its inception, after losing Rs. 1,332 crore in FY21 and 428 crore in FY20. In addition, the company reported a net profit of approximately 4 crore for the first half of FY23. As a result, the company has only recently begun to turn a profit. According to a recent Mint news report, they are planning an IPO with a valuation of INR 24000 Cr.
24000 crores when profits are only 14 crores!!!!!

In FY 2022, BharatPe’s total loss was Rs 5,594 crores. In fiscal year 2021, the company lost a total of Rs 2,961 crore. Ashneer Grover was removed in 2022 from the company so these losses will be also under his leadership since he was also at the helm in FY22.

Anupam Mittal is the owner of Shaadi.com, Makaan.com, and Mauj Mobile. Except for Shaadi, it appears that his other brands are either dead or not making enough money, as there is little or no media coverage of them. Even Shaadi’s financials are not public knowledge, with the exception of a recent report about a potential IPO, which may or may not happen given that a similar attempt was made in 2009.

Lenskart, owned by Peyush Bansal, lost INR 102.3 crore in FY22. That’s all there is to it!

Emcure Pharma’s Namita Thapar is NOT the company’s founder. Her father founded it and is still its CEO. So, to some, her credentials may resemble Ananya Pandey’s in Bollywood? (Did someone say nepotism?!)

In the fiscal year 2021-22, Amit Jain’s CarDekho lost 246.5 crores.

The only company that has been profitable since its inception is Aman Gupta’s Boat.

The Shark Tank India version appears to be Ekta Kapoor’s interpretation of the more interesting US version of the show.
