According to the Times of India, RS Sodhi, the former MD of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which retails the Amul brand, has been hired to build Reliance Retail Ventures (RRVL), the grocery arm of Reliance Industries (RIL).

According to the paper, Sodhi has been brought in to help the Isha Ambani-led company build on its growth in the grocery space, with a focus on fruits and vegetables, and to strengthen the company’s presence in consumer brands.

It went on to say that Reliance and Sodhi did not respond to inquiries. According to sources, Sodhi’s GCMMF expertise may be used to leverage products in the competition with Amul and Mother Dairy. Sodhi left Amul in January after 41 years at GCMMF.

The news comes as RRVL’s FMCG division, Reliance Consumer Products, has been aggressively expanding its presence through the introduction of new products. Among these new products are the iconic Campa beverage brand and products in the home and personal care categories.

In addition to Sodhi, RIL has brought on board former Coca-Cola India Chairman T Krishnakumar for RRVL.
